Backup and restore strategy

Impliancy stores only governance metadata and configuration data necessary to manage the Power Platform.
This makes backup and recovery straightforward.

What Impliancy backups

Impliancy backups impliancy-generated data. That includes:

  • Impliancy configuration database
  • Compliance form definitions
  • Submitted compliance forms
  • Ownership metadata
  • Environment governance settings
  • Inactivity configuration
  • Audit logs

Impliancy does not store customer business data, so backups are lightweight and efficient.

What does not need to be backed up

These items come directly from the Power Platform and are not part of the Impliancy backup:

  • Apps
  • Flows
  • Bots
  • Dataverse records
  • User content
  • Flow run history
  • App usage insights

Impliancy simply references this data when indexing.

Restore considerations

Should you have removed Impliancy from your tenant, you can easily restore it. When restoring Impliancy:

  1. Simply login to Impliancy again and consent to the app
  2. Impliancy will now go ahead and index everything like it did for the first time. All compliance forms, audit log data and more will be automatically visible after indexing is complete

Should Impliancy have issues indexing:

  1. Ensure the service principal still has valid credentials (still appearing under Enterprise applications?)
  2. Ensure the service principal still has System Administrator role in all environments

The full inventory sync will:

  • Rebuild environment lists
  • Reindex all artifacts
  • Restore all ownership mappings
  • Recalculate compliance statuses
  • Rebuild inactivity metrics
  • Restore audit log
